AGTC Genomics Highlights the Real-World Clinical Utility of Precision Oncology at ASCOMOS 2026

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 5 July 2026 — AGTC Genomics proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of its team and collaborators at the recently concluded 37th Annual Scientific Congress of the Malaysian Oncological Society 2026 (ASCOMOS 2026) and 59th Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine, where several important clinical studies highlighted the expanding role of precision oncology in improving cancer diagnosis, prevention, treatment selection, and patient management.


Among the key highlights was the excellent paper presentation by Ms On Jia Wen, Chief Genetic Counsellor at AGTC Genomics, who presented a meaningful study on the role of genetic counselling in premarital cancer risk assessment. Her work demonstrated how structured genetic counselling can help individuals, couples, and families better understand hereditary cancer risk, clarify misconceptions around cancer inheritance, and support informed decision-making before major life milestones such as marriage and family planning.



The study emphasized that hereditary cancer risk assessment should not rely solely on fear or assumptions based on family history. Instead, genetic counselling provides a scientific, evidence-based platform to review a detailed three-generation family history, distinguish between sporadic, familial, and hereditary cancers, and explain the benefits, limitations, and possible outcomes of cancer risk screening. The findings have important implications for cancer prevention, as more affordable and accessible cancer risk screening may help identify individuals who could benefit from earlier surveillance, preventive strategies, and long-term personalised healthcare planning.


AGTC Genomics also congratulates Dr Noorjehan Omar, Anatomic Pathologist / Histopathologist specialising in Musculoskeletal Pathology and Bone & Soft Tissue Sarcoma at Hospital Serdang / Lablink Medical Laboratory, for her excellent paper presentation on advancing sarcoma diagnosis through precision genomics. Her work showcased the importance of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and comprehensive gene profiling in supporting accurate sarcoma diagnosis, particularly in complex and hard-to-classify cases where conventional histopathology and immunohistochemistry may not be sufficient.



The presentation highlighted how comprehensive genomic profiling can detect clinically relevant and actionable alterations, including rare and diagnostically important gene fusions such as EWSR1::PBX3 in challenging sarcoma cases. These findings reinforce the clinical value of AGTC Genomics’ OncoDx™ Sarcoma Panel and OncoDx™ Pan-Cancer Comprehensive Genomic Profiling Panel, which are designed to support clinicians in identifying actionable mutations, gene fusions, and other genomic alterations that may inform diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning.


Beyond these notable presentations, AGTC Genomics’ participation at ASCOMOS 2026 reflected a broader commitment to translating precision oncology into real-world clinical practice. Clinical studies and case-based findings presented in this field continue to show how comprehensive gene profiling, liquid biopsy, and minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring can support clinicians across different stages of cancer care.


Comprehensive gene profiling enables clinicians to move beyond single-gene testing by providing a broader view of tumour biology. This is especially valuable in cancers with complex molecular drivers, rare tumours, advanced-stage disease, or cases where standard treatment options are limited. By identifying actionable mutations, resistance mechanisms, gene fusions, tumour mutational burden, microsatellite instability, and other clinically relevant biomarkers, comprehensive gene profiling can help guide targeted therapy, immunotherapy consideration, clinical trial eligibility, and more personalised treatment strategies.


Liquid biopsy is also becoming an increasingly important tool in oncology practice. As a minimally invasive blood-based approach, liquid biopsy can help detect circulating tumour DNA, identify actionable alterations when tissue is limited or unavailable, and support treatment monitoring over time. In selected cases, it may help clinicians understand tumour evolution, detect emerging resistance mutations, and make more timely treatment decisions.


MRD monitoring further strengthens precision oncology by helping clinicians assess whether residual cancer signals remain after treatment. This has potential value in post-surgical and post-treatment surveillance, recurrence risk assessment, and early detection of molecular relapse before radiological progression becomes apparent. When integrated with clinical assessment and imaging, MRD testing may provide another layer of information to guide follow-up intensity and long-term management.
