PETALING JAYA, Malaysia — Dr Tan Boon Shing, Chief Scientist of AGTC Genomics, delivered a continuing medical education (CME) talk at Thomson Hospital on the growing role of genomics and liquid biopsy across the cancer care journey.

Dr Tan highlighted the importance of early cancer detection and informed risk assessment. Hereditary cancer testing can help identify people with an inherited predisposition, while multi-cancer early detection offers an additional way to look for cancer-associated signals. These approaches can support timely clinical assessment alongside established screening methods.

For patients diagnosed with cancer, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) examines multiple molecular features of a tumour in one analysis. Identifying actionable mutations and other relevant biomarkers can help oncologists consider targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and clinical trials where appropriate.

The talk also explored advances in liquid biopsy, which analyses cancer-related material in a blood sample. It can provide molecular information when tumour tissue is limited, help assess changes during treatment, and support follow-up. After treatment, minimal residual disease (MRD) testing can look for molecular evidence of cancer that may remain and inform ongoing monitoring.

AGTC Genomics supports the full continuum of precision oncology through CancerRiskDx™ hereditary cancer testing, CancerScreenDx™ multi-cancer early detection, OncoDx™ tissue-based CGP, LiquidDx™ liquid biopsy, and CancerTRACE™ MRD monitoring. Each result is interpreted in the context of the patient’s clinical history, pathology, imaging, and treatment plan.
