AGTC Genomics and PERKESO Explore New Opportunities in Precision Health, Preventive and Regenerative Medicine

AGTC Genomics was recently invited by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) to explore potential opportunities in preventive medicine, precision health and regenerative medicine, alongside a visit to the newly launched PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre in Ipoh.

The visit provided an opportunity for representatives from AGTC Genomics to experience the centre’s world-class facilities and gain deeper insight into PERKESO’s comprehensive approach to rehabilitation, recovery and long-term health management.

The new PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre represents an important advancement in Malaysia’s healthcare and rehabilitation ecosystem, bringing together modern infrastructure, advanced rehabilitation technologies and multidisciplinary expertise to support individuals throughout their recovery journey.

Discussions during the visit also explored how precision medicine and precision health can work alongside preventive and regenerative medicine to create a more proactive, personalised and integrated approach to healthcare.

Professor Chee-Onn Leong, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AGTC Genomics, said the convergence of these disciplines presents a significant opportunity to transform the way diseases are detected, prevented and managed.

“Precision medicine allows us to understand the biological and genetic differences between individuals, while precision health enables these insights to be translated into personalised strategies for early detection, disease prevention and long-term health management. When combined with rehabilitation and regenerative medicine, we have the opportunity to create a more integrated healthcare pathway that spans prevention, early intervention, treatment, recovery and health optimisation,” he said.

AGTC Genomics brings a unique proposition to preventive medicine through the integration of genomics, advanced molecular diagnostics, multi-omics and precision health technologies. This approach can support the identification of individual disease risks and the early detection of major non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, dementia and many other chronic conditions.

By combining genetic predisposition, molecular biomarkers and other personalised health insights, precision medicine has the potential to identify health risks and biological changes before conventional symptoms become apparent. This creates opportunities for earlier intervention, more personalised screening and targeted preventive strategies based on an individual’s unique biological profile.

Rather than relying solely on a one-size-fits-all approach, AGTC Genomics aims to support a shift towards a more personalised model of preventive healthcare — one that enables individuals to better understand their health risks, detect diseases earlier and take proactive steps to maintain health and reduce the burden of chronic disease.

The potential integration of AGTC Genomics’ precision health capabilities with PERKESO’s strengths in rehabilitation, recovery and return-to-work programmes could create new opportunities to support individuals across a broader continuum of care — from risk prediction, early disease detection and prevention to treatment, rehabilitation, regenerative medicine, recovery and long-term health optimisation.

The visit marked an encouraging step towards identifying new areas where the strengths and capabilities of both organisations may contribute to advancing preventive, personalised and regenerative healthcare in Malaysia.

AGTC Genomics looks forward to further fruitful discussions with PERKESO and exploring meaningful opportunities that can contribute to the earlier detection and prevention of NCDs, improved health outcomes and the development of a more proactive and personalised healthcare ecosystem for Malaysians.
