AGTC Genomics Advances Precision Oncology Education with CME Talk at Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah

KOTA KINABALU, Sabah, 23 September 2026 — AGTC Genomics continued its commitment to advancing precision medicine and genomic education in Malaysia through a Continuing Medical Education (CME) talk held at Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah (Likas) in Kota Kinabalu.
The session, titled “Integrating Genomic Sequencing into Cancer Patient Management,” was presented by ChM Ts Dr Tan Boon Shing, Chief Technology and Data Officer of AGTC Genomics, and focused on how advances in genomic technologies are transforming the way cancer is assessed, treated and monitored.
During the session, Dr Tan highlighted the growing role of comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), hereditary cancer testing and liquid biopsy in supporting clinical decision-making across the cancer care continuum.
“Cancer is fundamentally a disease driven by genomic alterations. By understanding the molecular characteristics of an individual patient’s cancer, clinicians can obtain additional information that may help guide treatment selection, identify actionable biomarkers and monitor disease more precisely,” said Dr Tan.
Bringing Genomics into Routine Cancer Management
The presentation explored how next-generation sequencing and modern genomic technologies are increasingly being integrated with conventional clinical and pathological assessment.
Key areas discussed included:
Hereditary cancer screening to identify inherited cancer predisposition and support appropriate risk management for patients and their families.
Comprehensive genomic profiling to characterize cancer-associated genomic alterations and identify biomarkers that may inform targeted therapy or immunotherapy.
Liquid biopsy using circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) as a minimally invasive approach to molecular profiling, particularly when tumour tissue is limited or difficult to obtain.
Molecular disease monitoring and minimal residual disease assessment, which have the potential to provide additional insights into treatment response and disease recurrence.
Dr Tan also emphasized that genomic testing should complement, rather than replace, established clinical assessment, histopathology, imaging and multidisciplinary decision-making.
Supporting the Continuum of Precision Oncology
AGTC Genomics provides genomic solutions across multiple stages of the cancer journey, from hereditary cancer risk assessment and multi-cancer early detection to comprehensive genomic profiling, liquid biopsy and molecular residual disease monitoring.
By bringing these technologies together, the company aims to support a more integrated precision oncology ecosystem in which genomic information can contribute to earlier detection, more informed treatment decisions and longitudinal disease monitoring.
AGTC Genomics operates an advanced genomics laboratory in Malaysia and has developed capabilities spanning clinical genomics, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics and precision diagnostics. Its laboratory services include comprehensive cancer genomic profiling, liquid biopsy, hereditary cancer testing, whole-genome sequencing and other molecular genomic applications.
Strengthening Genomics Education Across Malaysia
The CME session at Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah reflects AGTC Genomics’ wider effort to work alongside clinicians, hospitals and healthcare institutions to strengthen knowledge and adoption of precision medicine throughout Malaysia.
As genomic technologies continue to evolve, education remains an important part of translating scientific advances into meaningful clinical applications.
AGTC Genomics believes that the future of cancer care will increasingly involve the integration of genomics with pathology, imaging and clinical information — enabling clinicians to move towards more precise, personalized and informed management of every patient.
