Advancing Nutrigenomics Research in Malaysia: AGTC Genomics Dietitian Wins Malaysian Dietitians' Association (MDA) Award for Hypercholesterolemia Study

AGTC Genomics is proud to congratulate Ms Samantha Wong, Senior Consultant Dietitian at AGTC Genomics, for winning an Oral Presentation Award at the 32nd Malaysian Dietitians’ Association National Conference (MDA 2026), held from 4–5 July 2026 at The Vertical, Connexion Conference & Event Centre, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.

Themed “Empowering Dietitians: Science, Skills & Leadership,” MDA 2026 brought together dietitians, healthcare professionals, researchers, and industry leaders through expert-led symposia, research presentations, and clinical workshops.

Ms Wong presented her study titled “APOE Allele Frequency and Its Clinical Impact on Hypercholesterolemia Risk in a Multi-Ethnic Malaysian Cohort: Implications for Precision Nutrition.” The study involved 650 individuals undergoing preventive health screening and examined the association between APOE genetic variants and lipid profiles, including LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides.

The findings showed that APOE ε4 carriers had significantly higher LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol, with a higher prevalence of hypercholesterolemia compared with non-carriers. These results support the potential clinical value of APOE genotyping in cardiovascular risk stratification and personalised dietary intervention.
